Irma Zandl: This cemetery was very near to my hotel in San Lorenzo and it is beautiful. I had to cut my visit short because of an impending thunderstorm but I could have spent at least an hour here. I don't think it's worth coming to San Lorenzo if you are visiting Rome for only a few days but if you have some extra time, and if history and monuments are your thing, 100% worth checking out.

The Verano cemetery is not only a burial place for the deceased, but also, as the name suggests, it preserves important monuments and illustrious tombs of personalities who have made the history of Rome and Italy. There are tombs of very important characters of Rome, such as the actor Alberto Sordi, or the actress Elena Fabrizi, in Arte Sora Lella. But also important tombs in the previous history of the city. Andrea Remine: La struttura è visibile a ridosso di Porta Maggiore, costituita da un basamento in tufo dell’Aniene e travertino sormontato da una muratura in opera a sacco rivestita da blocchi di travertino.Il sepolcro del fornaio Eurisace e di sua moglie Atistia sorgeva nello spazio compreso tra le vie Labicana e Prenestina che ne determinarono la pianta quadrilatera irregolare. Attualmente è visibile a ridosso di Porta Maggiore, subito fuori della porta. La struttura, parzialmente conservata, è costituita da un basamento in tufo dell’Aniene e travertino sormontato da una muratura in opera a sacco rivestita da blocchi di travertino. Il rilievo in marmo dei due coniugi, oggi conservato nei Musei Capitolini, era collocato probabilmente nella facciata est oggi perduta a seguito dei lavori di demolizione delle torri onoriane della Porta Labicana - Prenestina. Caratteristica del monumento sono le cavità circolari, disposte nella parte superiore, che simboleggiano le impastatrici utilizzate nei forni. Tali elementi compaiono raffigurati anche nel fregio dove sono rappresentate le varie fasi della panificazione alla presenza del proprietario Eurisace e di funzionari dello Stato.

Alessio Fauni: Nei pressi di Porta Maggiore, possiamo ammirare i resti di questo edificio funerario di epoca Romana dedicato niente di meno che ad un panettiere, infatti è denominato anche "Panarium". Risalente a pochi anni prima di Cristo fu eretto come tomba di Marco Virgilio Eurisace, che doveva sicuramente essere un personaggio molto famoso dell'epoca. I resti e il complesso delle opere in questa zona sono veramente un punto da visitare.

Mintaka Stuart: La necropoli fa parte del Parco archeologico di Ostia antica ed e' sito poco conosciuto, ma di grande valore sia archeologico che anche sociale. Le tombe contenevano i resti di schiavi e liberti che provenivano da ogni angolo dell'impero che lavorano svolgendo varie professioni nel porto di Claudio-Traiano. In base alla posizione all'interno della necropoli e alla tipologia della tomba, si comprendono le differenze sociali e culturali presenti nell'antica Roma ed un angolo e' dedicato anche ai bambini fino ai 15 aa d'età. Il sito e' stato riqualificato ma le tombe sono sporche e i tabelloni con la spiegazione delle varie tombe, risultano spesso illeggibili ed e' un vero peccato..Il complesso si trova all'interno di un'area bellissima, ricca di maneggi, agriturismo, di verde, a due passi da Ostis che si chiama Isola Sacra.
