I have attended language schools in Rome (2), Venice (2), Florence and Palermo. Academia Studio Italia is very good - certainly better in my view than the heavily self-promoted language school just the other side of Ponte San Angelo (that I am reluctant to actually name). The experience at any language school depends in significant part on a constantly changing group of students - schools have to work with the student population at any given time. That said, Studio Italia placed me at the right level with students at more or less the same level. The teaching materials - textbook, handouts, videos - were effective teaching tools. The classroom was intimate, but not too crowded, and with good acoustics. The teachers were experienced, dedicated to teaching and very likable. All in all, I had a very good experience at Studio Italia and will return to the school whenever my travels next take me to Rome.

I just returned from four weeks at StudioItalia. I chose the intensive course doing 3.25 hours/day for five days per week. I started with two weeks, loved it and extended for two more weeks. I had a great time and couldn’t be happier with the results. The class was team taught (good because you get to hear different speakers and enjoy different teaching styles). Class size varied from 2 people on the smallest days to 10 people on the largest days. People drop in, stay for a week, leave for pleasure travel, return for a week, etc. My classmates were from America, Ukraine, Croatia, Poland, Brazil, Colombia and Germany. Many spoke English. Many did not. We often went for coffee between lessons, and I had lunch after class with lots of my classmates. We had an all-school aperitivo (there were four or five other classes going on at the same time as mine) on a couple of occasions. There’s a great esprit de corps at the school. The teachers are fantastic. They are energetic and experienced and relentlessly positive —even when your Italian sucks and you can’t conjugate a verb to save your life and don’t even ask me about il congiuntivo. The teachers help you, jot down the vocab you are missing, rephrase what what you wanted to say in real Italian, and keep it positive and airy. It really is a great vibe in class. Each week had a general grammatical theme and every class involves culture, news articles, stuff to do in Rome, etc. I loved my experience, and I’d love to go back.
